Becareful when applying for this job because CX "DOES NOT" pay as much as what you guys think, unlike the old scheme prior to 2008 .......... :<.<:

If you take into consideration cost of living in HKG, you will find that working for MAS, Air Asia or even Firefly is much better because your disposible income is very much higher ........ :=\:

Hi little dazzling,

This is what I gathered from a couple of friends who joined CX in 2008. Among others are:-

1. There is 'NO BASIC SALARY', you are paid by the hours and IIRC, your guaranteed hours every month is 75 hours and the rate is approx HKD120 per hour. Assuming the rate is correct, you will get HKD9000 per month as your so called basic salary.

2. There is "NO HOUSING ALLOWANCE", you will be given a SHARED 2 bedroom apartment for the first 8 years of your service. The apartment is located at Gold Coast. HKG is the top 5 most expensive city in the world. Current market price to rent a shoebox size (500-700 sq ft) of an apartment in Tung Chung (the closest township to the airport) is approx HKD8000-10000 per month.

3. The is NO PICK-UP to/fro work like MAS. A one way bus fare from Gold Coast to your place of work is approx HKD30 and you will spend HKD60 just to fulfill your duty.

4. Valentine's Day in Paris, Xmas in LAX and New Year in NYC? ......... Yeah right .......... Dream on .......... You will get the most 2 Ultra Long Haul flights per month, the rest will be regional and medium haul (mid-east, Indian sub cont or Aust) flights. As long as no overnight anywhere away from HKG, you will not get any extra allowance.

5. Promotion - Will not happen at least after 10 years in the company. Remember, your housing will be paid by the company up to 8 years only, after that it is going to be your problem.

6. Overall - you should be able to get between HKD12000 - 15000 per month, depending on your roster. If you bring maggi mee during all your nightstops, then you could probably save a lot. With current exchange rate of RM1 = HKD2.50, do your math how much it is worth .......... you will get the same amount of money with MAS or Air Asia but at least you live in KL .......... you may stretch you $$$ a bit longer here in M'sia than living in HKG.

CX is no longer a 'gold mine' that it used to be. It is just another carrier which keep reducing employee's package every now and then. Unless you could find a 'SUGAR DADDY' in the first 8 years of your career, I would say STAY AWAY from CX.

The DECISION is yours

sure or not...CX pays RM8,000 basic plus allowance can earn up to RM20,000 a month. And can buy goods and sell...extra income. I have friend who bought a few apartments in HK just by working as a crew in CX.
